Work is beginning on the new Nelson Bus Hub, with the project kicking off in early July 2025. Nelson City Council is constructing a new City Centre Bus Interchange, it will serve the Nelson / Tasman ebus service as well as Intercity, school buses and regional minibuses taking customers to golden Bay and the National Parks. The site will serve as a tourist and locals transport hub and provide sheltered waiting areas both inside and outside as well as assist bus users with audio and visual communication. New landscaping and street furniture will enhance the public amenity of the area. The bus operating area will be a new concrete pavement replacing the existing asphalt concrete surfacing.

Over the space of four months, the following work will be completed:

• Removal of the existing Millers Acre Carpark.
• Additional drainage infrastructure will be installed, including a central rain garden for storm water run-off.
• Modifications will be made to the existing building, in order to create a new waiting area for users.
• A canopy structure will be erected over the bus bays, providing shelter for users whilst accessing buses.
• Concrete pavements will be constructed in the bus turning area's and bays.
• Reinforced concrete entranceways will be constructed along Halifax Street.
• Along Halifax Street, Structural Asphaltic Concrete will be placed in the areas that buses will turn in and out of site.
• Upon completion of the new Bus Hub works, the existing site on Bridge Street will be decommissioned, and the new site commissioned for use.

Traffic Impacts:

• Most of our works will take place between 7:00am-6:00pm, Monday to Friday, with some work taking place outside of these times as required.
• At times, night work may be required. You will receive further notification from us prior to this happening
• Temporary traffic management (road cones, signs) will be installed as part of the works. Please follow all signage and instructions from our team onsite
• There may be some traffic delays.
• Reduced carparking in the surrounding areas should be expected as we progress through the works.
