Project Stage In progress

Work will begin with a watermain renewal, followed by streetscape improvements. These upgrades will replace ageing infrastructure, improve water reliability, and enhance the overall look and feel of Marine Parade.

To keep our crews and the public safe while we work, a temporary one-way traffic system will be in place from Monday 24 November between Lonsdale Street and Bowhill Road. Traffic management and clear signage will be installed to help guide motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians through the area.

Traffic management and detours

  • The one-way system will support northbound traffic only on Marine Parade.
  • Side streets — Bowhill Road, Rawhiti Avenue, and Lonsdale Street — will be closed at times.
  • Detours will be in place via Bowhill Road, Keyes Road, and Hawke Street as required.
  • Southbound vehicles on Marine Parade will be detoured at the intersection with Bowhill Road.
  • No right turns will be permitted from Bowhill Road, Rawhiti Avenue, or Lonsdale Street onto Marine Parade.
  • A 30km/h speed limit will apply through the work area.
  • After Christmas, the one-way system will be extended between Lonsdale Street and Hawke Street. We’ll provide an update before this change takes place.

Property access and local impacts

We understand this work can cause some disruption and appreciate your patience while we complete these essential upgrades.

  • Property access will be maintained where possible, but temporary restrictions may occur. Please contact our team if you have specific access needs such as medical visits, home help, deliveries, or planned works.
  • Bus stops 12150 and 12145 will be temporarily relocated during construction.
  • On-street parking may be restricted at times.
  • You may notice increased dust, noise, and vibration while work is underway.
  • Kerbside bins should be placed out by 6am on collection day. Our team will assist by moving and returning bins if needed.
  • Pedestrian access will always be maintained, though temporary footpath detours may be in place. Please follow signage and the instructions of our traffic management staff.
