Where: New Brighton Road bus stop #39527 adjacent to Palms Mall.

When: 11 October 2021 to mid-December 2021. Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

  • The new bus stop location will be adjacent to the existing mall car park on New Brighton Road and include an indented bus bay which will increase space and access through the road corridor.
  • The new bus stop will provide improved facilities including a nine meter bus shelter, planting, cycle stands and improved lighting.

Impact on traffic

  • From early November pedestrian detours will be set up on the south side of New Brighton Road (opposite the side of works) between Marshlands Road and Golf Links Road in addition to the detour currently through the mall car park.
  • Pedestrians will be directed to access the mall either from Marshlands Road or on Golf Links Road.
  • From early November the entrance off the Palms will be closed to traffic off New Brighton Road for approximately three days for works near the entrance. Motorists will be directed to use the mall entrances off Golf Links Road and Marshlands Road.

Start Work Notice 10th February 2022

WHAT: Intersection upgrade at Rolleston Drive and Tennyson Street

WHERE: Intersection of Rolleston Drive (between the Rolleston Square entrance to Othello Drive and Tennyson Street (between the Rolleston Police station and Bronte Way)

WHEN: 10 January to early May 2022

CONTACT: Isaac Construction - Communications Manager: Peter Chum pchum@isaac.co.nz (03) 3599199

We are writing to provide an update for the construction work for the intersection upgrade of Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive which began on 10 January 2022.

Isaac Construction Limited have made good progress and we are preparing for the next stage of our works.

From Friday 11 of February:

  • Tennyson Street between Bronte Way and the Rolleston Police Station will reopen one-way northbound (towards SH1).
  • There will be no left turn at the Rolleston Drive intersection.
  • The one-way systems on Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive will likely be in place for the rest of the works, due to finish in early May (weather depending)
  • There will be additional signs in place to direct people to business access and parking.

There is a safe temporary footpath for Tennyson Street through the New World complex car park. This will be in place for the rest of the work and traffic management staff and signage will be in place to help pedestrians and cyclists with access through the work site.

Isaac Construction Limited have made good progress in the first four weeks of work which has involved replacing the existing water and sewer main pipes through the intersection with larger pipes as future proofing. Work has also started piping the remaining section of open water race on Tennyson St, south of the intersection.

Generally, the upgrade replaces the current roundabout with traffic signals and upgrading the road around the intersection. This will include new pavement construction.

Rolleston Drive, west of Tennyson Street, up to the Rolleston Community Centre will be upgraded to a lower speed environment on the approaches to the future town centre entrance, with planted median islands and paved footpaths.

We have been unable to complete these major works without some disruption to the traffic flow around this intersection.

Any additional night works will be communicated in advance of the work commencing.
