Mike Higgins accepted the prestigious Gold Award for Environmental Excellence on Friday, 15th July, on behalf of Isaac Construction.
Isaac Construction were of the three Canterbury quarries who have taken top honours at the Quarry NZ Industry Awards held in Blenheim for environmental practices.
The quarry is owned by the Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust, set up by Sir Neil and Lady Diana Isaac to further conservation goals.
Mike Higgins paid tribute to the Isaacs when accepting the award.
"They were ahead of their time, believing a business could be built while enhancing the environment. Canterbury and New Zealand are the winners here," he said.
Awards judge Dr Morgan Williams, a former Parliamentary commissioner for the environment, said the winning quarries had integrated environmental goals into their operations and did not treat them as add-ons.
