Overview:

The project involved the construction of new bus lanes on Lincoln Road between Moorhouse Avenue and Lincoln/ Barrington/ Whiteleigh intersection as part of Christchurch City Council’s initiative to improve bus journey times between Halswell and the city centre.

This included:

• 1,200m of new kerb & channel,
• 220m of new stormwater drainage (mostly under kerb),
• 2,030m2 of new hotmix footpath,
• 1,100m2 of new block paved footpath,
• 3,300m2 of road shoulder reconstruction, including deep lift AC20 hotmix 140mm deep,
• road resurfacing, including 12,420m2 of milling and lay 50mm AC14 hotmix,
• construction of raised threshold (safety initiative to slow vehicles down) at Lincoln/ Barrington/ Whiteleigh intersection, including 1,124m2 of AC14 60mm deep,
• 5,424m of line marking,
• 2,080m2 of coloured surfacing,
• installation of new road signage & street furniture,
• construction of a new signalised pedestrian crossing at Mediaworks,
• upgrade of four other sets of traffic signals,
• installation of new streetlights, and
• landscape planting.

In addition, the opportunity was taken to upgrade the existing watermain in the area, and this work included:

• 150m of PE pipe 180 and 250 OD in eight separate crossings of Lincoln Road,
• 282m of DN150 and 200 ductile iron watermain pipes in Hazeldean and Lincoln Road,
• 780m of 63 OD PE water submain pipe in footpaths and road crossings,
• water submain connections to existing property meters and services,
• installation of eight watermain connection details that included valves, fire hydrants, thrust blocks, and bends to connect road crossings to the existing watermain,
• installation of pressure zone boundary valves and associated structures, and
• electrical controls in two locations at Moorhouse/ Lincoln corner and Whiteleigh adjacent to Show Place.
