Lincoln Road Bus Lanes and Watermain Upgrade - Night works

Work has been progressing well on Lincoln Road as we install peak hour bus lanes and new watermains.

We’re working at night to complete work that can’t be done during the day when the roads are busier and to reduce the impact to businesses.

We will continue to work during the day and night through to October so that we can get out of your way sooner.

Night work will take place on Lincoln Road between the Whiteleigh Avenue intersection and Moorhouse Avenue. Work will be concentrated in some areas more than others and we will update you on work being planned in your area.

We will minimise noise at much as possible.

We’re working hard to finish our work on Lincoln Road near Parlane Street so that it can be reopened to residents.

  • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained along Lincoln Road.
  • Parking restrictions will be in place on both sides of Lincoln Road within the working area.

What – We’re installing peak hour bus lanes along both sides of Lincoln Road, between Moorhouse Avenue and Whiteleigh Avenue. We’ll also be making other changes to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

Why – To create more reliable journey times to get everyone where they want to go on time and to improve safety for all road users.

Where - Lincoln Road between Moorhouse Avenue and Whiteleigh Avenue

When - Monday 2 May 2022 to mid-November 2022. Monday to Saturday, 7am and 6pm. (weather/side condition dependent). We will update you if any night work is needed to complete this work.

Contact – The contractor is Isaac Construction. Phone Peter Chum on 027 236 6279 or 03 359 9199 Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm.

Details

The new peak hour bus lanes will make bus journey times shorter and more reliable. This is stage one of works, and involves widening Lincoln Road to allow for the bus lanes to be installed. We’ll be making other changes to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. These include:

  • A new pedestrian crossing will be installed by Addington Village, allowing people to cross the road safely
  • Installing new bus stops and shelters
  • Upgrading the Barrington/Whiteleigh Avenue intersection
  • Installing new parking bays
  • Replacing footpaths and water mains
  • Improving street lighting
  • Storm water drainage work
  • Moving kerb and channel and road resurfacing
  • The speed limit on Lincoln Road, between Moorhouse Avenue and Whiteleigh Avenue will be reduced to 30km/h

The bus lanes will operate weekdays between 7am and 9am, towards the city and between 3pm and 6pm towards Halswell.

A bus lane will also be installed on the south side of Moorhouse Avenue, between Selwyn Street and Lincoln Road. This bus lane will only operate between 3pm and 6pm.

During this work

    • We need to dig up parts of the road to complete drainage work and kerb and channel, however we’ll be keeping Lincoln Road open to two-way traffic while we do the work. There will be road closures on several side roads during the work. We will provide updates before any closures take place.
    • All work has been planned in stages to reduce the impact on local businesses and residents, and to keep traffic flowing as best as possible.
    • Temporary bus stops will be installed where existing stops need to be removed.
    • Speed will be reduced to 30km/h through the work area.
    • Rubbish and recycling won’t change. Please continue to but bins out at the usual time for collection.
    • There will be no on-street parking on sections of the road we’re working in. We will keep work areas small where possible.
    • Property access will be maintained where possible. We will work with businesses and residents during the work. Please let us know if you have any specific property access needs eg medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries or planned works.
    • The bulk of this work will happen during the day. There will be the occasional time when the contractor will carry out specific tasks at night when the roads are quieter and less congested, or when water connections need to be made. The contractor will give 48 hours notice to affected parties before any night works start.
    • Cycle and pedestrian detours will be in place from time to time – please follow signage.
    • We will be replacing water mains as part of this work. We will update affected residents and businesses when we need to connect to the new water main.

Our team will continue to update you as the project progresses. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
