We are writing to provide an update for the construction work for the intersection upgrade of Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive which began on 10 January 2022.

Isaac Construction Limited continue to make good progress and we are looking forward to completion of the main works in the next couple of weeks, in the lead up to the easter break.

In the past couple of weeks progress has been made:

  • Completing the road surfacing on Rolleston Drive and Tennyson Street including the intersection itself
  • Continuing the block paving and asphalt footpath work
  • Installing the exposed aggregate ramps
  • Installing the new traffic signals poles
  • Installing a new pedestrian crossing at the Masefield Drive/Rolleston Drive intersection
  • Installing a safer pedestrian crossing point at the Othello Drive/Rolleston Drive intersection

From Monday April 11 Rolleston Drive will return to two-way traffic with Tennyson Street remaining one-way.

From Friday April 15 both Rolleston Drive and Tennyson Street will return to two-way traffic under give way roundabout control. This will remain until the traffic lights have been commissioned (later April).

From Monday April 18 there will night works with a full intersection closure from 9pm to 6am for four days (weather permitting) to complete line marking and the final work that requires a full intersection closure. Tennyson Street will be closed from 7pm and Rolleston Drive from 9pm.Detours will be in place. Access to the Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive shops and shopping centre car parking will be restricted at times.

This night work will create some noise and vibration with concrete saws and machinery being used. Our crews will do their best to minimise noise and plan any impactful work early in the evening where practicable.

A general layout plan for the night work closures is included. You can also find online project updates at: https://isaac.co.nz/projects/ongoing.

If you have any questions or concerns, or would like the opportunity to meet to discuss the details of this project, please contact Pete Chum on pchum@isaac.co.nz (03) 3599199

We are writing to inform you that construction work is planned to upgrade the entrance to the intersection of Othello Drive and Rolleston Drive.

Isaac Construction Limited will carry out the work, which forms part of the Rolleston Drive/Tennyson Street intersection upgrade project.

For these works to take place a one-way system will be installed each day from 9am on Othello Drive between Kinglear Drive and the Rolleston Drive entrance next to the Rolleston Community Centre. This means only traffic coming off Rolleston Drive onto Othello Drive will be permitted. Road users needing to access Rolleston Drive from Othello Drive will need to detour via Kinglear Drive.

The work should take approximately one-week to complete (weather permitting) with the one-way system being installed on a daily basis from 9am-6pm as required.

The work itself involves extending the current island entrance to Othello drive and installing a safer pedestrian walkway across the intersection.
A general layout plan for the one-way system is included below.

We are writing to provide an update on the construction work for the intersection upgrade of Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive which began on 10 January 2022.
Isaac Construction Limited continues to make good progress and we are looking forward to beginning the road construction and resurfacing stage of the project.
In the past couple of weeks progress has been made:

• Completing the piping of the stock water race on Tennyson Street from the Rolleston Police Station to Bronte Way
• Installing new and moving existing underground services and installing the new traffic light foundations on the intersection
• Pouring the remaining kerb and channel and median islands
• Completing sections of footpath on Rolleston Drive and Tennyson Street
• Beginning the block paving work

From Sunday March 20 there will be night works from 9pm to 6am for two weeks (weather permitting), with the intersection closed overnight to complete major works that require a full intersection closure.

Detours will be in place while the intersection is closed overnight and access to the Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive shops and shopping centre car parking will be restricted overnight at various stages.
The nightwork involves:
• A full intersection road reconstruction
• Asphalt paving the intersection
• Line marking

This major work means there will inevitably be increased noise and vibration with concrete saws and heavy machinery (diggers, trucks, rollers, and the paving machine) being used. This is likely to occur throughout the night as this work is being completed. Our crews will do their best to minimise noise where practicable.
During the daytime, the one-way system on Rolleston Drive (westbound towards the community centre) and Tennyson Street (northbound towards the SH1) will remain in place.
A general layout plan for the night-time closure work is included below.

We are writing to provide an update for the construction work for the intersection upgrade of Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive which began on 10 January 2022.

Isaac Construction Limited have made good progress and we are preparing for the next stage of our works.
From Friday 11 of February:

  • Tennyson Street between Bronte Way and the Rolleston Police Station will reopen one-way northbound (towards SH1).
  • There will be no left turn at the Rolleston Drive intersection.
  • The one-way systems on Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive will likely be in place for the rest of the works, due to finish in early May (weather depending)
  • There will be additional signs in place to direct people to business access and parking.

There is a safe temporary footpath for Tennyson Street through the New World complex car park. This will be in place for the rest of the work and traffic management staff and signage will be in place to help pedestrians and cyclists with access through the work site.

Isaac Construction Limited have made good progress in the first four weeks of work which has involved replacing the existing water and sewer main pipes through the intersection with larger pipes as future proofing. Work has also started piping the remaining section of open water race on Tennyson St, south of the intersection.

Generally, the upgrade replaces the current roundabout with traffic signals and upgrading the road around the intersection. This will include new pavement construction.

Rolleston Drive, west of Tennyson Street, up to the Rolleston Community Centre will be upgraded to a lower speed environment on the approaches to the future town centre entrance, with planted median islands and paved footpaths.

We have been unable to complete these major works without some disruption to the traffic flow around this intersection.
Any additional night works will be communicated in advance of the work commencing.

Detours will be in place for these closures and access to the Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive shops and shopping centre car parking will be maintained off Rolleston Drive in particular. Please note that access off Tennyson Street to the Rolleston Drive shops (The Rock driveway) will be closed until this is safe to reopen.

A general layout plan for the work is downloadable.

We are writing to let you know that preliminary works are beginning on the intersection upgrade of Tennyson Street and Rolleston Drive.

Isaac Construction will begin site investigations from 22 November for up to two weeks, to prepare for the work replacing the current roundabout with traffic signals and upgrading the road around the intersection.

This investigation work will include pot holing for services around the intersection.

This work will require the closure of one footpath and may require stop/go controls at the intersection outside of peak traffic hours. Some on street parking will also be affected.

We will endeavour to keep noise to a minimum and carry out work that can disrupt traffic outside of peak traffic hours.

The upgrade will include new traffic signals, pavement construction and replacing the existing water main and sewer main pipes through the intersection with larger pipes as future proofing. We will also be piping the remaining section of open water race on Tennyson St, south of the intersection.

Rolleston Drive, west of Tennyson Street, up to the Rolleston Community Centre will be upgraded to a lower speed environment on the approaches to the future town centre entrance, with new planted median islands and paved footpaths.

A general layout plan for the work is included on the back of this notice.

Prior to the main construction works taking place, another work notice will be issued outlining the temporary traffic management plan and impacts for residents, businesses, and other stakeholders. You can also find online project updates at: https://isaac.co.nz/projects/ongoing.
